Pace Fits Bionic Foot

Prosthetist, Toby Carlsson and his team at their South Manchester clinic fitted 18-year-old, Scott Wall with the Proprio Foot™, from leading prosthetic manufacturer Ossur.

Hailed as the world’s first intelligent foot module, the revolutionary Proprio Foot™ provides unprecedented physiological benefits for amputees as it closely mimics the action of a human foot.

Offering a wide automated range of ankle flexion with proven Flex-Foot dynamics means function is as close as you can get today to the human foot.

“The foot thinks for itself,” said Toby, “It responds to changing terrain and therefore transforms the approach to stairs and slopes, as well as level ground walking. It angles itself appropriately and therefore helps amputees to sit and stand up easily and more naturally.”

For hit and run victim Scott Wall, the technology is life changing. The teenager had to undergo a below-the-knee amputation a year ago. After spending 10 weeks in hospital and time in a wheelchair, Scott had a prosthetic leg fitted, but struggled walking on it.

He has just had the Proprio Foot™ fitted and within days of wearing it has noticed a huge difference, he said: “The foot is fantastic and is making a real difference to everyday life for me. The prosthesis I had before was very restrictive when walking up or down hills or climbing stairs.”

A keen sportsman before his accident, Scott hopes that his new foot will allow him to get back on the basketball court before long.
